Abstract

Our laboratory has been harnessing the power of frequency combs—lasers which simultaneously emit 100,000+ wavelengths of light—to understand and solve problems in atmospheric and combustion systems through laser absorption spectroscopy.  I will discuss how together with NIST, we developed the first-ever mobile spectrometers based on the comb technology.  I will then discuss how we have applied this technology to a variety of current scientific problems, from measurements of trace gases over multiple-kilometer stretches of the open atmosphere to measure of combustion gases in high-pressure reacting systems.
